P. Griggs Graphic Design
PGriggs Graphic Design is a full service design firm that prides itself on providing quality design services with outstanding customer service. Our success is measured in the long-term, rewarding partnerships we share with our clients.
Design may be thought of as a visual language, complete with various nuances, dialects and rhythms that effect the reception of a message by the intended audience. Working in collaboration with our client we help to identify the audience, develop the message, and determine the best vehicle for distribution. From this understanding we are able to establish a realistic budget, process and timeframe to help move the project to completion. These factors aid significantly in developing the visual style that will best communicate your message.
At the beginning of this position, I rewrote the courses for Beginning and Advanced Graphic Design and moved them from 2 unit, 3 hours per week to a full 3 units, 6 hours per week courses. I Developed lesson plans, taught core concepts surrounding Beginning and Advanced Graphic Design theories and techniques, ran both lab and lectures and mentored 20-30 students over the course of a semester. I also teach Photoshop and am working with the administration to write new coursework for other digital design courses. Since assuming this position class size has always been impacted with waiting lists at the start of each semester.
City of Redding
Coordinated marketing efforts for various aspects of the Community Services Department of the City of Redding. I was responsible for branding the Recreation Division and its programs to develop a consistent presentation across all media channels. As part of the branding effort I redesigned and produced the Recreation Division’s Activity Guide (a multiple page booklet detailing classes and activities) and implemented revenue generating advertising campaigns that moved the marketing efforts into the black for the first time since their inception. I Coordinated all social marketing efforts, website redesign and maintenance for Recreation and standard templates for handouts and brochures. I also designed and produced a visual database for photos and a job-tracking database for management of the various marketing materials developed. I participated in budget preparation and administration of cost control for marketing efforts promoting community events. In addition, I prepared cost estimates and budget recommendations for media placement and production of ready-to-use marketing materials.
Greeley and Hansen
My area of responsibility included development of all national marketing materials. I re-designed and deployed the firm’s intranet site to aid in communications and content management. Another facet of my position was to train the support staff and establish guidelines for them to maintain various intranet efforts. I was also responsible for developing consistent proposal and internal communication templates for brand cohesiveness. Building multi-media interactive presentations for RFP/RFQ process and for litigation consulting was another of my tasks. I also designed Project Management and Public Involvement web sites for various high profile government projects. This required that I edit video and develop a DVD training series for Utility Management. Due to the worldwide breadth of the company, daily telecommuting was essential for me to be effective in my position. In addition, I traveled to various locations throughout the continental US for this position.
My responsibilities included coordinating, tracking, maintaining and producing graphics, illustrations, proposals and presentations for internal and external clients–over 1500 projects/year. As a Project and Team Lead for the graphics group I and was required to develop excellent time management skills to coordinate schedules, reach consensus among all principals involved and translate input and concerns into effective, compelling communication pieces. To achieve the best results in my position, I consulted with and mentored my graphic design staff on departmental programs and objectives, graphic design principles and maintained a positive, motivational work environment within my department. I was also tasked with troubleshooting computer graphic applications within the group.
My major accomplishments include being named the Graphic Design Lead on a variety of multi-million dollar procurement efforts requiring presentation of ideas to a development team and board-room decision makers for approval. These efforts typically called for digital presentations and often involved my ability to work cohesively with multiple designers from different firms who had come together for the first time and were performing under critical time frames. My team building and negotiating skills came into play constantly and helped me to be successful. I was intimately involved in kick-off and planning meetings for procurement and proposal (RFQ/RFP) efforts where content and writing strategies were discussed and implemented. I was instrumental in the design, production and maintenance of a regional intranet site. I collaborated with members of the National e-Pubs Group for the region to develop guidelines and standards for new and evolving technologies related to communications and internet use.
Before & After Magazine
Initial development and research for possible articles on graphic design as a process and principles and techniques of design including; balance/symmetry, rhythm/repetition, emphasis, unity, movement, and proportion/scale. Articles were graphic in nature and had to incorporate all of these theories in practical, real-world examples. Emphasis was placed on using typography, graphics, and illustrations to create compelling page layouts, identities or solving a common visual design problem using the latest software applications available at the time. Magazine was produced in as a multi-color publication.
